In 2022, the multi-billion dollar James Webb telescope had just been released, generating undeniably sublime images. In this age of tech-optimism, I wondered, are they anything more? So I built and photographed my own galaxies constructed with handmade and mechanical processes. I like the pursuit of making spectacles from unassuming and unexpected materials– marbles for moons, pinholes for stars, inky water for nebulae and aquarium pebbles for meteorites. I often return to themes of deep space and deep sea in my search to touch the unknown within myself.
